Since they do not involve much work to install, self-contained fountains are ideal for patios and porches. They are also not difficult to move from place to place.

The landscaper will first check that the place where you want your fountain to go is even. Any bumps can simply be leveled by your landscaper. The moment has come to position your water feature where you want it and fill it with water. Last but not least, connect it to a solar panel, a wall outlet, or batteries, and it will be good to go.

If you need a fountain that will not need an outside water source or additional plumbing, a self-contained fountain is ideal. Many fountain owners want them to be the focal point of their yards and place them right in the center, although they can certainly go anywhere in the garden. There is a variety of materials that can be used to make them including cast stone, metal, ceramic, and fiberglass.

Keep Your Landscape Fountain Tidy

It is essential to carefully maintain water fountains for them to function optimally. It is important to clean it out and get rid of any debris or foreign objects that might have gotten into or onto it. Additionally, anywhere light from the sun combines with still water, algae can form. Either sea salt, hydrogen peroxide, or vinegar can be dissolved into the water to avoid this problem. Another option is to mix bleach into the water, but this action can sicken wild animals and so should really be avoided.

An extensive cleaning every three-four months is recommended for garden fountains. The initial step is to empty out all of the water. When you have done this, scour inside the water reservoir with a mild detergent. If there is delicate artwork, you might need to use a toothbrush for those hard-to-reach areas. Make sure all the soap is totally rinsed off.

Calcium and fresh water organisms could get inside the pump, so you should disassemble it to get it truly clean. To make it less challenging, soak it in vinegar for several hours before cleaning. If you want to minimize build-up in your fountain, use rain water or mineral water versus tap water, as these don’t contain any ingredients that might stick to the inside of the pump.

And finally, make sure the water level is continuously full in order to keep your fountain running smoothly. If the water level slides below the pump’s intake level, it can damage the pump and cause it to burn out - something you don't want to happen!

A Magnificent Example of Roman Artistry: The Santa Maria in Cosmedin Water Fountain

Amazing finds of both Christian and pagan roots have been made by archaeologists and restorers in the area around Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome. The famed marble sculpture known as the Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth) can be seen in the portico of the basilica nearby. When the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain was constructed in 1719, it was off the beaten track and generally unknown as a result. For the most part, people stayed away from the area because it was a bleak and neglected part of the city. It was then that the Italian architect Carlo Bizzaccheri was instructed by Pope Clement XI to erect a fountain in the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in an attempt to make the area more popular.

August 11, 1717 saw the start of the job to put down the foundation of the church. After blessing of the first stone, medals with the illustration of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water, were tossed into the foundation.

Contemporary Statuary in Early Greece

Sculptors adorned the complex columns and archways with renderings of the greek gods until the time came to a close and most Greeks had begun to think of their religion as superstitious rather than sacred; at that time, it grew to be more standard for sculptors be paid to show everyday individuals as well. Wealthy individuals would occasionally commission a rendition of their ancestors for their large family burial tombs; portraiture also became prevalent and would be appropriated by the Romans upon their acquisition of Greek civilization. A point of artistic enhancement, the use of sculpture and other art forms transformed throughout the Greek Classical period, so it is inaccurate to suggest that the arts provided only one function. Greek sculpture was actually a cutting-edge part of antiquity, whether the cause was religious fervor or aesthetic satisfaction, and its contemporary quality may be what endears it to us now.

How to Select the Best Spot for Your Fountain

Before picking out a water fountain, take some time to think about exactly where you want to put it. Any high-traffic areas such as driveways, entryways, or roundabouts are ideal spots to install one.

Certain fountains are specifically built to lean against a wall. To secure one against a wall, look for a bar or hook on the back made specifically for this purpose. Bare in mind when you set up your fountain that you must securely fasten it to a wall to avoid having it fall over in high winds and being damaged.

In public places like parks where people tend to sit and take it easy for a few minutes, you will notice one other option – the garden sculpture style.
