Agrippa's Astonishing, but Mostly Forgotten Water-Lifting Technology

Although the mechanism designed by Agrippa for lifting water earned the esteem of Andrea Bacci in 1588, it seemed to fade not long thereafter. Only years afterward, in 1592, the earliest contemporary Roman waterway, the Acqua Felice, was attached to the Medici’s villa, possibly making the technology outmoded. The more likely conclusion is that the system was abandoned once Franceso di Medici, Ferdinando’s siblingexpired in 1588, leading him to give up his role as cardinal and return to Florence where he accepted the throne as the Grand Duke of Tuscany. Although there were various other important water-driven concepts either designed or built during the latter part of the sixteenth century, such as scenographic water demonstrations, giochi d’acqua or water caprices, and musical fountains, none were nourished by water like Agrippa’s system. 53226sl__79273.jpg

Install a Garden Water Fountain as a Commemorative Piece

Garden fountains make ideal and unique commemorative pieces. Age-old customs are often met with defiance nowadays. Nevertheless, it is still popular to memorialize the deceased. Memorials often include personal objects and are frequently used to pay homage to the deceased. They come in many shapes and sizes, and backyard garden fountains are really common. Including photos, planting a tree or flowers, attaching a custom made plaque, or holding a vigil at the fountain to pay tribute are ways you can make it more personal.

Remembering those who have passed away is easy with a garden fountain. The tricking of water through the fountain symbolizes the luck and affluence of your loved one and can also make part of the honoring of their life. Whatever sort of garden fountain you choose as a memorial, make sure it is long lasting, high quality, and able to withstand any type of weather. You want to make sure your garden fountain is going to hold up once you get it set up.

A Solar Powered Water Wall Fountain

Are you seeking the perfect piece to complement your home?

Well, you can add that special touch and augment the price of your home just by adding a solar water fountain. You get all the advantages of an electrical fountain, as well as other monetary benefits and an overall betterment to your health. While your initial expenditure may be steeper, the long-term savings are beneficial. Despite occasional power shortages, your fountain will not be affected because it does not run on electricity.

Your monthly electric bill will most likely increase with running water fountains. Keep in mind that while you may not notice any rewards right away, your home will be worth more down the road.

Higher costs is not the only issue with using more electricity, the environment takes a big hit as well. Solar powered water fountains get their energy straight from the sun thus making them the perfect “green” fountain. Using solar energy to run a water feature is not only worthwhile to our environment but it also heats and cools our homes.

Less maintenance is a benefit of adding this kind of fountain. Since solar fountains don't have motors, they don't get clogged which leads to little cleaning. And since there is little cleaning to do, you will have more time to play!

The Myriad Ways You Can Benefit from Fountains

Any space can be enhanced by the sights, sounds and improved air quality provided by outdoor fountains. They offer many health benefits and create a lovely atmosphere to entertain loved ones. In the end though, you will probably experience certain benefits your fountain will give only to you. You just might be reminded of a fun vacation or trip you took. It might just make you think back to a certain person from your past. You could also make it a memorial to a special someone. Whatever the case, it is something you will enjoy for many years.

Acqua Vergine: The Solution to Rome's Water Problems

Rome’s 1st raised aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was built in 273 BC; before that, residents living at higher elevations had to depend on natural streams for their water. Outside of these aqueducts and springs, wells and rainwater-collecting cisterns were the only technological innovations obtainable at the time to supply water to locations of higher elevation. From the beginning of the sixteenth century, water was routed to Pincian Hill by way of the underground channel of Acqua Vergine. The aqueduct’s channel was made reachable by pozzi, or manholes, that were added along its length when it was first created. While these manholes were provided to make it less difficult to sustain the aqueduct, it was also feasible to use containers to remove water from the channel, which was carried out by Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi from the time he purchased the property in 1543 to his death in 1552. It seems that, the rainwater cistern on his property wasn’t adequate to satisfy his needs. That is when he made a decision to create an access point to the aqueduct that ran below his property.

The Favorable Effects of Water Features on Your Furry Friends and Flying Visitors

Wildlife and pets are by nature attracted to bird feeders and water fountains. All birds need somewhere to drink, bathe and preen. There are some birds, such as robins, thrushes, orioles, or warblers, which are not attracted to bird feeders, but are drawn to fountains because of the moving water. While bowl-shaped bird baths can be unexciting to many birds, fountains are more enticing because of the moving water they generate. Birds hear the trickling and splashing and are even more likely to come around.

Dogs are drawn to fountains mainly because they provide drinking water. Dogs and cats will be outdoors looking out for refreshing water during hot temperatures. Because water in fountains is always moving, they do not need much maintenance, whereas the still water of birdbaths collect debris and require more attention.

Understanding Self-Contained Fountains

Self-contained fountains are ideal for anyone looking for affordability and convenience. You do not need to have any more components because they all come included with the instructions for your fountain. An additional meaning of “self-contained” is a fountain which comes with its own a water source.

Self-contained fountains are quick to install making them well suited for anyone needing a patio fountain. They are also not difficult to move from place to place.

The first thing the landscaper will need to find out is whether or not the land is level. Lawns and gardens tend to be lumpy so your landscaper will have to level the area where you want to put it. Your water feature is now prepared for installation and the addition of water. The last step is to plug it into a socket, a solar panel, or batteries.

Since it is stand-alone and does not require an external water source or plumbing, a self-contained fountain is optimal for anyone looking for ease and convenience. The center of a garden is a favorite spot for a water fountain so as to get the most visibility, even though they can be positioned anywhere. Cast stone, metal, ceramic, and fiberglass are just a few of the materials used to make them.
