Everything You Will Need to Have for an Outdoor Water Feature

When thinking about where to install your garden fountain, do not overlook the fact that you will need somewhere to plug it in and a convenient source of water. a-374__58322.jpg The joy of owning one occasionally causes people to forget the technical aspects when setting it up for the first time. Do not forget that an extension cord can be useful if your 120v power source is more than 12 feet away, as that is the standard length of power cords. You will need to refill your fountain with water so make sure there is a source of water in the area. Water is hard to move manually from place to place. The easiest way to fill the fountain is with a nearby garden hose. A water fountain autofill is an even better solution, but will demand the help of an expert who knows how to set it up since the water has to go through an external line.

Characteristics of Garden Statues in Archaic Greece

The first freestanding statuary was designed by the Archaic Greeks, a recognized achievement since until then the sole carvings in existence were reliefs cut into walls and columns. For the most part the statues, or kouros figures, were of young and nice-looking male or female (kore) Greeks. Regarded as by Greeks to characterize skin care, the kouroi were formed into stiff, forward facing poses with one foot outstretched, and the male statues were usually nude, muscular, and athletic. In about 650 BC, the differences of the kouroi became life-sized. The Archaic period was an incredible point of change for the Greeks as they grew into new forms of government, formed fresh expressions of art, and achieved insights of the men and women and cultures outside of Greece. And yet these disagreements did not prevent the emergence of the Greek civilization. {

Enhance Your Backyard with the Aid of Feng Shui

When applied to your yard, feng shui design will bring its healthy energy into your home as well.

As far as the size of your garden goes, it is not especially important when adding feng shui design to it.

If you have a lush, beautiful one, that is great, but even a small area works well with feng shui design.

The same tools you employ to incorporate feng shui design into your home can be used in the garden. As the energy map, or bagua, of your garden is an extension of your home's bagua, you will need to begin by knowing the bagua of the house.

It is also crucial to know the five elements in the theory of feng shui and how best to use each one to maximize its energy.

An example of this is that Earth is the feng shui element you should have in the northeast section of your garden because that part of your garden connects to the energy of personal growth and self-cultivation. A Zen garden with some lovely natural rocks is ideal for that spot, as the rocks epitomize the Earth element.

A water feature is a perfect addition to the following feng shui areas: Southeast (money & abundance), East (health & family), and North (career & path in life).

A True Roman Marvel: The Santa Maria Fountain in Cosmedin

Archaeologists and restorers on the lookout for pagan and Christian antiquities in Rome have come upon a treasure trove of them in the area of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin. The famed marble sculpture called the Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth) can be seen in the portico of the basilica nearby.

Built in 1719, the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain was relatively unknown and located far from sight making it hard to visit. The part of town where it was located was depressing and uninviting which generally kept visitors away. It was a this time that Pope Clement XI commissioned the Italian architect Carlo Bizzaccheri to put up a fountain to renovate the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin. August 11, 1717 saw the beginning of the work to put down the foundation of the church. Medals bearing the images of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water, were thrown in the foundation following the consecration of the first rock.

The Results of the Norman Conquest on Anglo-Saxon Landscaping

Anglo-Saxons felt great modifications to their day-to-day lives in the latter half of the eleventh century due to the accession of the Normans. Engineering and gardening were attributes that the Normans excelled in, trumping that of the Anglo-Saxons at the time of the occupation. But there was no time for home life, domesticated design, and decoration until the Normans had overcome the whole region. Because of this, castles were cruder structures than monasteries: Monasteries were usually significant stone buildings set in the biggest and most fecund valleys, while castles were constructed on windy crests where their inhabitants dedicated time and space to projects for offense and defense. Tranquil pursuits such as gardening were out of place in these desolate citadels. Berkeley Castle, maybe the most unspoiled style of the early Anglo-Norman style of architecture, still exists today. The keep is said to date from the time of William the Conqueror. An enormous terrace encompasses the building, serving as an obstruction to attackers wanting to dig under the castle walls. On 1 of these terraces sits a charming bowling green: it's covered in grass and flanked by an old yew hedge that is created into the shape of rough ramparts.

Set up Your Privatel Garden Fountain in Your Office

Your business environment can benefit with a garden fountain. A pretty one will make your office space feel warm and welcoming. In contrast to the more common fountains found in people’s homes, garden fountains installed in corporate areas should create a lasting impression as well as provide a warm, welcoming ambiance.

Important to the growth of any firm, they are a way to attract new customers and make a positive first impression. Create a little piece of nature in small outdoor spaces by including eye-catching garden water fountains, beautiful trees and bushes, and other attractive landscaping. Even larger, more eye-catching garden displays can be set up in corporate areas that have more open space available.

Some companies, though, have to make the most of a tiny area.

The main idea here is that you need to bring in new customers and make a lasting impact. Your garden fountain will serve much like a welcoming embrace to new clients considering working with your business.

Bernini's Public Fountains

There are many popular fountains in the city center of Rome. Practically all of them were designed, architected and built by one of the greatest sculptors and artists of the 17th century, Gian Lorenzo Bernini. His skills as a fountain designer and also as a city designer, are evident all through the avenues of Rome. To fully reveal their skill, mainly in the form of community water features and water fountains, Bernini's father, a celebrated Florentine sculptor, mentored his young son, and they eventually relocated in Rome. The young Bernini received encouragement from Popes and relevant artists alike, and was an excellent worker. Originally he was celebrated for his sculpting skills. An authority in historical Greek engineering, he utilized this knowledge as a base and melded it gracefully with Roman marble, most notably in the Vatican. He was affected by many great artists, however, Michelangelo had the biggest effect on his work.
